Something I responded to on the Specials forum has given me an idea (Yes, my head hurts now but I am sitting down). It doesn't have to come from the venues themselves, (don't think any of them are on here) but will welcome posts from anyone with sufficient knowledge or opinions. I would like to know others thoughts on the various venues in and around London that either put on regular or one-off ska do's. The sort of thing I'm looking for is, sound/acoustics (important natch), cost (entry and beer), choice (beer), accessibilty (as in ease of getting to and from), provisions, or lack of, for smokers and little things like whether the toilets are up/down 3 flights of stairs and through a maze of corridors just to find a queue of people longer than at the bar, etc. etc. Maybe we could even set up some sort of overall rating for them? What do ya think, people?

bosher, here's some thoughts on the venue we were both at sunday night- THE BUFFALO BAR,UPPER ST,ISLINGTON: acoustics were very good (low ceiling helped i think). i was near the stairs at the back ,both bands sounded clear and loud enough. drink situation a bit iffy, bottled lager or the odd cocktail. no draught beers (not sure if wine was available). £8 adv./£10 door was excellent value for two quality bands toilets tucked away in corner next to bar, reasonably clean. i would have no hesitation in going to the venue again. great little cellar venue!

Yep gotta agree, although the beer situation ain't so good for me, being a bitter drinker. Got away with it Sunday by having my own cans, although that's not an option for others. If I was a lager drinker then I'd probably tolerate the bottles. Never quite understood why pubs can pump beer through pipes UP to their bar but not through a wall or even down stairs, keg stuff is all gas driven ;D

Don't know if you'll read this in time but The Rhythm Factory, great venue as it is, has either a crap selection of lagers only, or if like 2 months ago, just the one lager! I don't know if it's a case of a vicious circle, ie. no demand for other draught beers, cider, so they don't stock it, so people who drink other draught beers, cider, don't come so often, meaning less demand and so on...... How I wish I had the money to set up my own venue, one which I hope would cater for EVERYONE!
